Visit Kingdom of Chewing Gum

By xrspook @ 18:49:51 归类于: 烂日记

Planning for more than a month, today, I finally went to Wrigley Company in Guangzhou Development District. After the quit of friend, I had to start my road alone. There’s nothing in my head, didn’t expect anything, yet I received an accidental courage, it was come from mom. Today should be better than yesterday, and it is really better than that.

At the very beginning, I spent about two hour on my way to that place. The traffic was still OK today, I got on Bus 883 as planning, and then I should pass 36 bus-stops before I arrived at Wrigley Company. People are up and down, came and went, I still sit at the end of the bus continue my journey. When the broadcast said the next stop is the crossing of development district, I knew the termination of this trip was coming. After a few stop, it broadcast a stop named hospital of development district, yet when the bus started moving again, I picked up the Wrigley Company! What a pity, I missed it!!! Have no choice but got off the bus and went back by foot. You won’t lose yourself there, because the candy scent of Wrigley Company is very strong, first I smelled mint aroma then peach aroma. When you feel the scent becomes stronger and stronger, it means you are close to that company step by step.

Then the entrance of that company was funny too. I misknew one man was the one I contract, and stopped by the guard. I explained who I wanted to find then register. It’s very nice of that guard. Waiting for a while, a miss came to let me in. We went to the reception then that miss asked a female worker be my guide. The visit started, great!!!

Before enter to workshop, I had to put on white gown, headgear, earplug, and shoe cover, at the same time I had to take of my watch. Everything was standby, but I still had to wash and sterilize my hands before entrance workshop.

The workshop is amazing, with a great smell of candy. The first producing line I saw was producing Doublemint, undoubtedly, the scent of mint was fiercely, and my eyes even feel that strong mint.

The detail things I couldn’t speak out or I might leak the commercial secrets, yet as much as I know I couldn’t count the most important secrets absolutely.

At first, let me talk about the machines there. Most of the machines weren’t very large, but the quantity is vast, because they were making chewing gum, that thing couldn’t be very large. Of course, they also have huge tins to mix their raw material, such as glucose and chewing gum bases.

Then, it’s the turn of workers there. Most of workers are young men; they control a machine by themselves. The only female worker I just saw they were adding preservatives in little bottles of Extra. Before I came here, I heard there were not many workers in this workshop, yet compared with the food corporation I had visited, the amount of worker here is not the least. The most important reason is the producing line here isn’t huge, and the manipulative cell isn’t joined with pipe. For example, after making big pieces of Doublemint, they stored them in one place which is between the pieces producing workshop and the cutting and packing workshop. Another example, they make grains of Extra chewing gum in a big roller, yet they have to bag those particles in plastic pails.

Thirdly, I talk about the sign in those workshops. I could see the sign very clear about what’s input and output of one machine. Simultaneously, on wall of workshop I found the solution of their HACCP, the introduction of their products and where they will sell to. The deepest sign memory is come from the ground. They use different colors to divided area into what’s for walking and car driving (I mean electric flat car). If you walk in driving road, it just like you blocks in highway, meant low down others’ work efficiency and risk yourself. That’s the law of company, everybody should obey seriously.

This visiting let me remember a word of Dr. Ye, he said the undergraduate went to factory would look around everywhere, and asked plenty of questions, just like a mouse. I represented a little mouse today :)

Today, I went to kingdom of chewing gum, what I have brought back? A good memory and the scent of candy. The aroma of candy penetrates into my clothes just like the people of Wrigley give me keepsake showing I have got the paradise of chewing gum.

Light Me up

By xrspook @ 20:46:57 归类于: 烂日记

This morning we arranged our tutor to describe the thing two days before; however, our boss knew it a few hours ago before me met, so he gave us guidance to that problem immediately. I felt warm up again, now I worship him more then ever. He’s really very sagacious and experiential, full of passion and calmly at the same time. There are many things I should learn from him, and he must be my idol from now on undoubtedly. What a magic he could light me up after a few words! Simultaneously, a strong notion pass on me – everything is OK and all the things were under his control. He’s our harbor which we are safe, and he shreds light on us just as the God guards his children. We are not orphans, at least our boss still care about us.

Why there are tutors? He/She could be a teacher of someone forever. No only they could enlighten us on professional subject, and the ways of their life could be our models too. In shorts, they are the guide both in our study and daily life. Maybe we will leave our professional areas after graduate, yet the principle of being a good guy would help us all our life. I’m really lucky I had a good tutor before, have a good one now, and maybe continue the fortune in my future (during postgraduate studying).

The slogan in the high school game when I was in grade three was "Light the Fire". I appreciated that idea very much, for I enjoyed the feeling of being light up. Hope such kind of passion fire could continue for a long time.

Take Responsibility for Us

By xrspook @ 18:37:52 归类于: 烂日记

Still remember one year ago, a teacher complained in our class that the students now were worse than the ones in the past. Doesn’t our ability really come up to eldership? That’s difficult to say, but one thing is very clear – there are more people in one class nowadays. Maybe I was born in wrong year, at that time too many people came to world. On my road of growing up, I had experienced those more than 60 students in one class, and more than 500 students in our grade. Could the teachers take all responsibility for us? Were they sure they could give everyone enough time? Impossible, undoubtedly impossible, yet, who should take responsibility for this?

There are more and more students in university, more than the threshold ability of school, however, this excess recruit student still can’t satisfy the jillion growing population. So, there must be someone to become victims, I think, we are just some of them. The universities low down their standard to recruit more and the only solution is low down the quality of teaching as well. Oh, God! We become university students; it’s a good thing or terrible nightmare?

Yesterday, the teacher asked us to answer whether we want the yeast to die or not, a question of to be or not to be. It’s difficult to answer because we hadn’t done any experiment about this before and no one had done that, but then it became the mockery of them. Could they answer how many stars in galaxy? The first question has the same difficulty as the second one. Were we really ridiculous? Others didn’t explore some areas but we have a try, and when we take on the first step, the professional laugh at our idealism. If possible, the professional should discover the unknown world for us first, instead of our blindly grope. On one hand, they encourage us to be creative, yet on the other hand, they collapse our dream from the very beginning inhumanly.

Who could take responsibility for us?

Absolutely Desperate

By xrspook @ 21:18:43 归类于: 烂日记

This afternoon, I was absolutely desperate after consulted with a teacher. She pulled down almost all we had done before, in her professional opinion, we are wrong from the very beginning, and we should not have such idea that she thought its idealism. We just senior, have three years experience in university, and just met microbes less than two years, yet she are almost or already together with that thing more than thirty years. The plan of us didn’t hold water in front of her, but it doesn’t mean we never clearly think about it before, instead, I did spent plenty of time, many sleepless night to polish our plan. If I have never hard working before, I won’t so desperate now. It seemed she had destroyed everything – our plan and my heart.

There’s nothing wrong with her, so my tutor, and even me, yet it must be some gray area among us. I was so stupid that I could not persuade her to accept my idea. I’m not wrong totally, however, the qualitative thought of her dominated many things, unless I took out some evidence to proof myself. She said I confused her, so she couldn’t understand what I really what to do. I was also astonish when we began our topic because all the process just liked we lose faces on our own initiative. Nobody would expect this terrible thing. Beyond all doubt, I was the absolutely loser of this meeting.

On my way home, I soliloquized all the time, sometimes singing, or talking, fortunately, there were rarely people on the road. After about two hour, I calmed down at last. I don’t like make anything excuse for myself, I confessed our plan really had shorts, and I have tried my best to overcome it, but no resulted, we had to lay it down. I felt a little innocent, even the experienced professional couldn’t give us any advice, and how we green hand could solve it perfectly by ourselves? The microbial teachers in college are professionals in their fields, maybe good at bacteria, yeast or actinomyces and so on. Unite them together, it must be a strong team, however, there are also blank areas among them. I just fell in to that helpless place, one of them thought another knew much about something, but in fact another was not so omnipotence in that field. Oh, what should I do?

Sometimes I feel I’m a homeless child, don’t belong to here and there, and was alone all the time. Yesterdays, I learnt a new word – extraterrestrial, you could explain in a very simple word – alien. The student cross subjects are very difficult.

I’m just an ordinary man could do ordinary thing, thus it is necessary for me to have a breath and dream. As the custom of xrspook, I won’t give up, even after a really huge strike. There must be a way, and the hope is out there.

My tutor and my teammates, we should trust each other, I believe there must be a way out.

Tofu and Cheese

By xrspook @ 16:56:28 归类于: 烂日记

Soybean is a very ordinary farm product in China, so we have many ways to cook it. A few thousand years ago, we Chinese invented a soybean food – tofu, however, the name of such food was named not by Chinese but Japanese. They learned the method of making this from China and carried forward it to all over the world.

Milk is daily food in Europe; as a result, they also know how to change the shape of milk to create more other dairy. Cheese is one of most famous dairy around the world, and it’s the favor of many foreigners, and the necessary of their life.

Yesterday, Dr. Aimin Jiang presentated a livestock product class for us. He is a famous profession in this area, so in my opinion, half of the class he just showed off himself, yet if I were he, I have confident to make a parade too. He said the Cheese made in China must be better than which are made in Canada. For China has a long history of Cheese making (exactly I should say we have abundance experiment in tofu making), however, Canada just has about one hundred years’ history. Without doubt, we should be good in making Cheese. [xrspook:I just repeated the words by Dr. Jiang.]

Dr. Jiang said the most core technology of tofu and cheese is coagulating the casein in soybean-milk and milk. We use different technique to achieve this coagulate. I’m not familiar to cheese at all, even don’t know what is the exactly taste of traditional cheese, yet I have eaten many kinds of tofu. I believe, with such basic, Chinese could do a good job in cheese making, but we need more time to grope. In cheese’s field, we are just green hands now.

One thing I still wonder, the consumption of milk in China is still growing; the average of milk consumption is very low. Do we really have so many milk to make superior cheese to satisfy a small amount of wealthy and foreigners who live in China? Ten ton milk just could condense one ton cheese, as the separate of the whey cheese boost its price sharply too.

I’m not a professional in livestock product, yet I know in some technical degree, Chinese tofu are similar to foreign cheese, but they are still different food from shape, odor, flavor and custom, so they are not identical forever.
